Way-finding System:

The Yorkshire Ripper

There are no existing systems in place currently to educate the local people about the Yorkshire ripper crimes and where they happened apart from web- sites which are very objective in how they deliver their information and are only found by actively looking for them.

The aim of this way-finding system is to create an environment in which people can stumble onto information about certain areas they visit everyday and discover information not normally told. However bearing in mind some of the victims and their fam- ilies are still alive, it is very important to ensure the way- nding system is aware of the sensitive nature of which it conveys. Hence why a subjective piece is most appropriate as it creates room for thought instead of abruptly stating the events. The system will also be temporary as to reduce the impact on the victims lives.

A temporary instalment is best suited for the system as it stops the material becoming a daily reminder to the people involved. The pieces will be a part of light night in Leeds and focus on the timings of the attacks as they happened in the early mornings. Already existing light will be incorporated into the system using things like street lights.
